VPN Access
Implementation in your company to increase the productivity of your remote users
VPN access can
be defined as the use of an insecure public network for the purpose of securely
transferring sensitive information. The general idea is that remote users can
connect to the Internet via a LAN or through their ISP and then make a secure,
encrypted connection to their remote server. If you currently support or plan
to support remote users, then a VPN access is a great way to lower your total
cost of ownership.
As a company,
basically, you need to know why you want to implement VPN access. To save money?
To ensure remote users security? To link to branch offices, end users, or both?
VPN access, whether site-to-site or remote control, can require a great deal
of maintenance. You should evaluate your support resources. Can your current
IT department go it alone, or should you consider outsourcing? If you're only
considering site-to-site, compare costs, throughput, and service level guarantees
against those for dedicated lines. Understand your traffic patterns. Will remote
users be connecting at the same time, or will access be spread out throughout
the day? Study your current connectivity to make sure you build in enough capacity.
VPN access products aren't highly interoperable, so you should at the very least
carefully examine the offerings from companies with which you already have a
significant infrastructure investment. Although it is a good remote control
solution, we strongly recommend you to enable GoToMyPC software program for
your remote users.
