Remote Access Solution Applications and GoToMyPC
It is easy to see
that many computers connected to the internet are extremely vulnerable even
without installing a remote access solution product. Remote Access solution
products such as GoToMyPC are perceived as high risk factors, but mainly for
psychological reasons.
Many operating
systems include some sort of remote access solution by default. Windows 2000,
2003 Server, for example, ship with Microsoft Remote Desktop as a simple remote
administration interface.
Remote access solution is a set of technologies that transparently connects a computer, typically located in an off-site to a network. It is typically used by organizations to connect an employee's laptop or home computer to an organization's network to read email or access shared files and by Internet service providers (ISPs) to connect a customer to the Internet.
In essence, a well chosen and well configured remote access solution does not carry any additional risks with itself. If a network manager can keep a network secure, using a reliable remote control software package such as GoToMyPC increases productivity and reduces costs without any adverse effects on network security.
