Remote Access
Software Applications and IT system
Who has remote
control to your company's IT system? If you think you know the answer, think
again. In today's fast challenging mobile workplace, an Information Technology
administrator's control over a company's IT system is not always assured, and
is often hampered by the needs of employees to use remote access software applications
to control company network resources including email and databases 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. To stay efficient and competitive, employees also often
need to use remote access software tools for accessing such resources while
at home or on the road.
How do you
ensure that employees are using remote access software they need, while maintaining
the security protocols (firewalls etc) that keep intruders from gaining entry
into your company's IT system.
When a user first
sees a remote access software solution in action, their first negative reaction
is usually regarding the security implications. This is perfectly normal, and,
in fact, desirable. The real problem is that users do not immediately see the
threat inherent in IT system enabled applications such as an email client, a
web server, or the operating system itself.
