GoToMyPC is a completely new solution to the problem of remote access

GoToMyPC is a web based remote access solution that allows individuals and companies to register their computers online and then securely access those computers from any web browser. With GoToMyPC, users have full remote access
to all files, programs and network resources on their desktops.

Users enable their computers in just a few minutes by downloading and running the 1.4 MB GoToMyPC installer on the computers they want to access. It runs as a service and communicates with the secure Citrix Online servers. When users want to remote access, they log on to the website and select the computer they want to control. This submits a request to the Citrix Online servers, which connects the two computers via end to end authentication and 128-bit encryption. A small 200K Viewer plug-in launches on the client computer and prompts the user for an access code before allowing the user to see all the applications and resources on their desktop.

GoToMyPC has been built with security in mind. State of the art security features include an SSL-encrypted web site; end to end 128 bit encryption of the data stream, file transfers, keyboard and mouse input; multiple passwords, including remote access code. It is more secure than VPN because a VPN effectively takes an external machine, which has not been protected in the same manner as machines on the internal LAN and allows it the same privileges as internal LAN machines.

In contrast, with GoToMyPC it is irrelevant if the remote machine is infected with a virus or has other security problems. Additionally, its remote access connection has substantially stronger encryption than the default pcAnywhere connection.

While GoToMyPC allows you to remotely control a computer in a way that appears similar to pcAnywhere, the fact that it is a firewall friendly web based solution that runs as a service and doesn't require preinstalled client software means that this application goes far beyond those of PcAnywhere or other remote access applications.
